OUR SUSTAINABILITY POLICY
As Holiday Inn Ankara – Çukurambar, a hotel operating in the accommodation sector within the global and Turkish tourism industry, we aim to integrate the concept of sustainability into our current activities, future investments, and value chain by evaluating environmental, social, and corporate governance practices.
In line with the growing world population and demands, we embrace a sustainable development approach that does not neglect future generations and meets today’s needs, researching conscious consumption methods and alternative resources to ensure the preservation of natural resources.
Our sustainability policy forms the basis of Holiday Inn Ankara – Çukurambar hotel’s activities and is incorporated into our business model, which is applied to all our departments, starting with our board of directors.
We are aware of our responsibility towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals to overcome global issues such as climate change, poverty, hunger, inequality, water scarcity, and loss of biodiversity.
We aim to increase living standards and prosperity by expanding our investments, and we prioritize promoting sustainable development in our work and decision-making processes.
Aware of our impact on ecological, economic, and social dimensions, we are committed to developing the following SDGs as our primary focus and shaping our activities accordingly by 2030.
Recognizing the need for technologies that consume less energy, we carry out production and services that respect human health, biodiversity, and environmental resources. In line with the science-based targets initiative, we continue to research and integrate innovative best available technologies into our projects that offer pathways to a low-carbon economy by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprint. In this regard, within the scope of the European Green Deal, we are carrying out studies on waste reduction, efficient use of resources, and recovery of chemicals and energy in our investments.
With the active participation of our Board of Directors, our Sustainability Committee raises awareness about sustainable practices, examines issues that conflict with our sustainability policies, reports on them, and improves them by setting short-, medium-, and long-term sustainability goals.
In our reports, we evaluate the positive and negative trends of the results generated by our activities within our sphere of influence through internal and external audits and take corrective actions; we develop initiatives that improve social, environmental, and economic conditions; and we apply national and international standards to deliver the highest quality in line with our stakeholders’ needs.
To efficiently conduct business activities from environmental, social, and managerial perspectives:
We take into account human and labor rights, social justice, business ethics, workforce diversity, gender and opportunity equality, risk management, stakeholder engagement and cooperation, legal compliance, and preventive measures against corruption, bribery, mobbing, discrimination, and child labor.
We are committed to creating the necessary resources to integrate sustainability values—such as a low ecological footprint for the planet, combating climate change, using resources efficiently, conserving water, prioritizing efficient and reliable energy technologies, and supporting the circular economy—into both our own operations and those of our suppliers within our value chain.
In this regard, we commit to regularly reviewing our sustainability policy and keeping it up to date in consultation with the relevant departments. All our employees are responsible for implementing and embracing our sustainability commitments in a collaborative manner.
During the implementation of our activities, actions are taken in accordance with international and local legislation in line with our Biodiversity Management Plan, Waste and Wastewater, Air Quality, Community Health and Safety, Cultural Heritage, Environmental and Social, Environmental Emergency, Internal and External Complaints, Health and Safety, Human Resources, Stakeholder Participation, Education, and Water Resources Management Plans.
Within the scope of environmental management systems, it is our principle to set new targets for the assessment and continuous improvement of direct and indirect carbon emissions, energy and water consumption through EIA and third-party independent environmental audits and drills.
In line with the waste management hierarchy, our primary goal is to reduce waste at source. Where it is not possible to reduce the amount of waste produced to zero, all waste is sorted according to type.
Our stakeholders include local authorities, ministries, NGOs, the media, local communities, universities, suppliers, consumers, and our employees. We value conducting discussions (surveys, etc.) among our stakeholders to provide official communication channels that use transparent, sincere, and clear language. Consumer satisfaction and loyalty are monitored to improve our competence.
With the goal of zero accidents and zero occupational illnesses at the facility, OHS performance is monitored, and the root causes of events that threaten the health and safety of those in the workplace are identified. Proactive, corrective, and preventive actions (CAPA) are adopted as a principle to ensure a sustainable working environment. The training and development of our employees is critical to us. In this regard, we invest in training on sustainability to encourage our employees to recognize their competence and potential.
We conduct fair, equal opportunity, non-discriminatory, responsible, and humane relationships, and we take care to maintain contact with the local community within the sphere of influence of our facility. Our employees and local communities actively report to us through complaint and suggestion mechanisms, so that potential risks and demands (education, employment, food supply, etc.) can be assessed and action taken before they become critical. Our Sustainability Policy is integrated with our other environmental, social, and corporate policies. The Board of Directors commits to fulfilling the requirements outlined in this policy and expects the employees of the Holiday Inn Ankara – Çukurambar hotel to fulfill the same commitments.
